چکیده

This paper presents a method to derive local sea level variations using data from a single geodetic-quality Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver using GPS (Global Positioning System) signals. This method is based on multipath theory for specular reflections and the use of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) data. The technique could be valuable for altimeter calibration and validation. Data from two test sites, a dedicated GPS tide gauge at the Onsala Space Observatory (OSO) in Sweden and the Friday Harbor GPS site of the EarthScope Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) in USA, are analyzed. The sea level results are compared to independently observed sea level data from nearby and in situ tide gauges. For OSO, the Root-Mean-Square (RMS) agreement is better than 5 cm, while it is in the order of 10 cm for Friday Harbor. The correlation coefficients are better than 0.97 for both sites. For OSO, the SNR-based results are also compared with results from a geodetic analysis of GPS data of a two receivers/antennae tide gauge installation. The SNR-based analysis results in a slightly worse RMS agreement with respect to the independent tide gauge data than the geodetic analysis (4.8 cm and 4.0 cm, respectively). However, it provides results even for rough sea surface conditions when the two receivers/antennae installation no longer records the necessary data for a geodetic analysis. 2012 COSPAR. Sea Level Determination Experiences at Cape of Begur Using Altimetry and Tide Gauges

Three Begur Cape experiences on radar altimeter calibration and marine geoid mapping made on 1999, 2000 and 2002 are overviewed. The marine geoid has been used to relate the coastal tide gauge data from l’Estartit harbour to off-shore altimetric data. The necessity to validate and calibrate the satellite’s altimeter due to increasing needs in accuracy and long term integrity implies establishin...

Geodetic techniques for time and frequency comparisons using GPS phase and code measurements

We review the development and status of GPS geodetic methods for high-precision global time and frequency comparisons. A comprehensive view is taken, including hardware effects in the transmitting satellites and tracking receiver stations, data analysis and interpretation, and comparisons with independent results. Other GPS techniques rely on single-frequency data and/or assume cancellation of ...

Least Squares Techniques for GPS Receivers Positioning Filter using Pseudo-range and Carrier Phase Measurements

In present study, using Least Squares (LS) method, we determine the position smoothing in GPS single-frequency receiver by means of pseudo-range and carrier phase measurements. The application of pseudo-range or carrier phase measurements in GPS receiver positioning separately can lead to defects. By means of pseudo-range data, we have position with less precision and more distortion. By use of...

The Role of Kalman Filter in the Modelling of Gps Errors

This paper describes about the modeling of errors (like ionospheric delays, atmospheric delays, Troposphericelays, Multipath effects and dilution of precision etc.,) affecting the GPS signals as they travel from satellite to user on Earth. These errors degrade the accuracy of GPS position. An attempt is made to improve the accuracy in locating the GPS receiver by filtering the range measurement...

Space geodetic determination of spatial variability in relative sea level change, Los Angeles basin

[1] We combine Synthetic Aperture Radar Interferometry (InSAR), tide gauge, and continuous GPS measurements to determine the spatial variation in vertical land motion (VLM) along the coast of the Los Angeles basin over the past decade, and to examine the impact of spatially variable VLM on relative sea level trends. By identifying radar scattering targets with long-term coherence we make height...
